In Colombia, a new social order during the Tayrona period imposed strict guidelines for the making and wearing of metal objects. Certain emblems were reserved exclusively for the elite, such as large bird shaped breastplates or nose rings.
This pendant is inspired by a nose ring found at the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta Magdalena from the Tayrona period 900A.D. - 1600 A.D.
